Winded In

The wind continues to howl. The forecasted front of death and destruction arrived right on schedule and we are now hiding below decks as the north wind blows in at 30 knots gusting higher and confining everyone to their boats. We are safe and snug in our anchorage, but it is really much too rough to consider getting in the dinghy and trying to get to shore.

Unfortunately, this is day one of what is supposed to be a three day cold front. The wind is actually supposed to increase tomorrow and continue at 30 plus on Thursday. In any case, I suspect we’ll be celebrating Thanksgiving alone at home.

Oddly enough, that’s ok with us as Thanksgiving isn’t really a holiday outside of the U.S.. In fact, it’s openly mocked in lots of parts of the world as the early European settlers actually caused the demise of the same American Indians they are supposedly celebrating now, which is a weird thing to be festive about, but I digress.

Despite the high winds, a few cruising boats have begun to arrive. Truth be told, most of the new arrivals are of the fly-in variety and so the weather windows aren’t really an issue for most modern jets heading this way. I did see a couple of 50+  catamarans sail in this past Sunday, so there are some boats out and about.

For now, life is pretty quiet. Amy has a huge resume writing contract with a company that is laying off a lot of their tech staff after a recent merger, so while she writes the day away, I battle space aliens and answer her questions about what the various tech jargon acronyms mean.

I have been tackling a couple of boat projects in my free time. Our salt water pump is acting up, so I have pulled it a part in hopes of figuring out what’s wrong. Right now I think it may be the micro switch is faulty and I am rigging up a replacement to test my theory. Hopefully it is the switch and I can get a new one for about $2, as opposed to the pump which is like $200. I hate you West Marine, I hate you so much.

The wind has been so high, that we haven’t even been in the water for more than a week. How lame is that?

This weekend we are having our bi-annual yard sale to raise money for the Vet clinic. I will be manning the table for the goods that have been donated to the clinic to try and raise funds for the locals who can’t afford to pay for their animals care. Oddly enough, my table will be right next to the table that is selling Mimosas. Go figure.

Ok. That’s about it. See you soon, more to follow, end of line ….
