The Dog Whisperer

Greetings and welcome to July. Work continues here on the island and I am happy to report progress on multiple fronts.

First off, the Generation 7 chair frame is complete and the structural rigidity tests have begun. So far, all indicators are that we are good to go and work has now progressed to the fabric cushion and sling construction phase of the operation.

I ended up going with a 4 layer, laminate schedule layup using a Gen 5 form as a back bone and custom milled, 5/32 oak strips to build out the side pieces. They turned out much better than I expected and the structures exhibit way, way more strength than the Gen 6 sides made utilizing kerfing. In fact, the strength is so much better then the Gen 6 that I didn’t need to use under sides or shoulder supports to complete the form.

See attached pictures; and yeah, that’s a lot of clamps.

In the “Bizarre World of Island Life” category, while I was working in the wood shop here, I heard this noise and turned around to see a large, 1 pound land crab attempting to sneak up behind me. Unfortunately for my crabby friend, I was holding both a glue gun and a rubber chisel mallet and I thus I was able to easily apprehend the tasty morsel in question.

I called Amy on my cell phone and she came downstairs with our pressure cooker and our appetizer was secured. Sweet!!!

As an aside, how often have you caught dinner in your garage? Kick ass!!!!

In other news, Doctor WildGoose was here on Thursday, so I spent 12 hours playing nurse Chapel to her Doctor McCoy.

We had a full schedule of furry animals to tend to, but only four surgeries, so it wasn’t too bad. My fellow volunteer and our office slave, Michelle snapped an action shot of me holding Scully while the Doc cut her toe nails.

Things are pretty lax at the Island Animal Clinic and so unless we’re opening an animal up, we usually get the owners in the room with us. See accompanying photo.

And finally, this Sunday the American women take on Japan in the finale at the Women’s World Cup (Soccer) in Canada. Long time readers will remember that the AmyUnit and I are huge fans of the World Cup and so we will be ready to watch with our American flags and cheer our girls on.

Go USA !

Ok, that’s about it. More to follow, end of line ….

P.S. – Sorry about the picture intensive update, but that’s how we roll….

Bozo, the new chair attempt looks pretty solid. Finish it up and show us some pics.

I sure hope you never decide to quit blogging otherwise I have no idea what I'll do for entertainment. There just isn't any TV that makes me laugh as hard as you do.

Happy Independence Day !!!!

Tom - what is your best guess about water usage for you and Amy in a week? We are two years away from leaving to start our cruising and are arguing about the need for a water maker or not. Let us know what you think. Thanks!!

Bozo, whats the story with the chicks in this picture and the funky hair color? Is that an island thing or what? I'm not complaining just wondering.
