Deflate-gate

For the last two years I’ve been trying to find a small leak in our rigid inflatable, but with no success.

Of course, I haven’t been too quick to troubleshoot the cause of the leak as we only use our inflatable when we’re out of Georgetown, but recently I had some down time and so I dropped the dink into the water and drug it to the beach.

Two hours of searching for a leak resulted in no progress what-so-ever, but a well meaning passerby(er) suggested cleaning the air valve itself as sometime they do not seal completely. There is a cap that screws over the valve, but I doubt it’s airtight, so I got some alcohol and a couple of Q-Tips and cleaned it up.

I pumped the dinghy full and now we are waiting to see if the repair works. If this doesn’t fix it, I’ll have narrowed the problem to the only remaining possibility.....

Tom Brady and his cronies have been making nightly visits and releasing a small portion of my trapped air molecules. Damn you New England Patriots!

Be safe, it’s dumb out there …

Tom, how much propane do you carry and how long does it last?

Thanks

Also, do you use propane refrigeration as well?

Saskia,

We carry two, ten pound propane tanks on Dream Catcher. We cook quite a bit and we share our propane between the hot water heater, the outdoor grill, the outdoor cooktop and the inside stove/oven combo. We can usually make it 3 months before we run out, but this varies some depending on how much baking we do.

We do not use propane for refrigeration. To the best of my knowledge only the Gemini boats came from the factory with propane refrigeration. In my opinion, propane inside the boat running all the time is scary.

Goodluck,
Tom
