Beer Apocalypse

Amy and I live here in the islands by choice, so I’ve never felt right about bitching at the exorbitant prices of just about everything here, but believe me when I tell you that prices average two or three times what you normally get in the states. Alcohol is no different; case in point, a case of Budweiser here tips the scales at 50 bucks. Really? Fifty bucks for sh@tty beer ? Weak.

So, anyway, you can imagine my utter shock and total disbelief when I walked into C&K Liquors to be greeted with a large, misspelled sign pronouncing that High Rock Lager is on “sail” for $1.07  a bottle or $6.49 a six pack! Surely this is some sort of bait and switch ploy. This madness cannot go unmet! I will rise to the challenge and defend my adopted country from this Sharknado of a Beer Apocalypse!

Or, on the other hand, maybe I’ll just buy a case and head for the door.

More to follow, end of line ….

P.S. – Yes I know the price per unit for 6 is greater than the price for 1 and I’ve tried for 6 years to explain what’s wrong with that, but apparently, that’s just have we roll down here….

Milo, this sounds like a dumb question most likely, but what do you and the wife unit do to rock out with some tunage on board Dream Catcher? I mean are you XM-ing it or maybe car stereo with some surround sounds? How about bluetooth from your phone to a ship mounted stereo head? Just curious what your using and maybe better, what you would recommend.

Thanks,
Bags

Dear Bread,

Good question. We have a fairly elaborate entertainment setup on Dream Catcher that I will detail in an upcoming entry, but basically we have blue tooth enabled car stereo style tuner that accepts input feeds from hardwire, bluetooth (cell phone), USB stick and direct audio input that plays through 6 high end speaker spaced around the boat. We don't have any CDs or DVDs, so all our music comes in a digital format from  one of our phones or pre-loaded playlists via microSD cards.

Regards,
Bozo

Yo dude...

You never said if the beer was of any account... and I know for a fact that you had some if not all of said 6 pack prior to writing about it.

Man... we're SO WAY ready to head down.  Neither of us has had a break for months between overhauling the boat and that entity referred to as a real job...  Anyhow it'd be nice to know that we don't have to bring 10's of cases of beer in the guest stateroom.

And yes, I know that you and Amy are thinking that we're slack for not coming down for a little R&R, but we're trying to get the boat habitable in time for the season and it's going to be tight!   At best we'll have a sleeper that works and run great but  looks like a piece of shit derelect on the outside.  So don't be scared when you get back from Chat and Chills and see us rafted to Dreamcatcher sometime this winter...

Enjoy,

Beotch, the beer is decent by microbrew standards, but by our Bahamian options, it's friggin' awesome. Don't know if they export it or not, but you might want to take a look next time your in a decent wine and spirits store.

Bozo, fwiw, they are selling cold cases of both High Rock and Strong Back (think Guinness) here on Eleuthera for $25 plus VAT. If you run out over there, let me know and maybe we can start an illicit triangle trade sort of deal.

Later,
Jinx

Hey Tom and Amy - Hope all is well down there this hurricane season. I'm heading to Annapollis in October for three weeks, let me know if you happen to be around.

Best,
Jim
