Trivia Masters

Friday, March 18, 2005 - Manatee Pocket, Stuart, FL By Tom
Team Dream Catcher motor-sailed up to Manatee Pocket today. The wind was pretty light, but the trip was only
25 miles, so we weren't in a hurry. We fought the tide the whole way, which seems to be the case more and more.
It took us three tries to get the anchor to set in the soft goo bottom, but once secure, we dinghied in to West
Marine for a few pieces and parts.
Back on the boat I finally got around to changing the oil in our two main drive motors while Amy assisted. It
was much easier this time around than previous attempts, because we used a manual oil suck pump and true to it's
name, it sucked the oil out. Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet.
Not much else to report, tomorrow we head for Vero

Today we motored up to Vero Beach. The town of Vero does not allow anchoring, so you must either go into a marina
or pick up a mooring ball at the city dock. We opted for a mooring as they are only $10 a day and we are cheap.
There are a limited number of moorings here and when it gets crowded, you are expected to raft up. We shared our
mooring with another PDQ 36 named Distant Music that I had met over in Georgetown. Mike and Marya are on their
way back to the Chesapeake as well, so we'll probably be seeing a lot of them over the next several weeks.
Once we put the boat to bed, we deployed the dinghy and motored into the dock to sign in and hit the book swap.
We're almost out of books, so the timing couldn't have been better. Unfortunately, the book swap here pretty well
sucks. Amy says we may need to find a book store.
We plan on staying here a few days and we are trying to get a rental car to run a few errands. More to follow,
stay tuned

Rental dude from Hertz came by and picked us up this morning. We rode with him back to the office and did the official
car paperwork and then we went driving. This is the first time in 6 months either of us has driven, so you may
want to stay off the sidewalks.
Armed with our car, we set off for Applebees. We love Applebees. Afterwards, it was back to the marina to pack.
Tomorrow we are driving over the west coast of Florida to visit Tampa Bay and a few other places.
We should be back in a day or two to continue the trip north

We're back. I returned our rental car this morning after we went to the Albertson's grocery store and the ABC liquor
store.
Tampa was ok, but there is a lot of traffic and neither one of us really enjoyed it too much.
Most of the afternoon was spent putting supplies away and doing laundry. Early this evening, Mike and Marya came
over for cocktails. We and they are planning on leaving tomorrow. I think we will probably head up to Eau Gallie
(Oh Golly) and hang out there a few days before jumping offshore.
Amy and I have been trying to decide what we are going to do this summer and I think we're sneaking up on it.
We may try and get a slip up in Deale for 6 months or so. If we can, I think we'll both try and find jobs for the
summer/fall season to restock the cruising kitty, before preparing to go back to the Bahamas in the winter.
By the way, if anyone reading this needs an under employed computer professional, I am available

We arrived in Eau Gallie today. We spent some time here on the way south late last year and we both enjoyed
it. Once we got the anchor down, we launched the dinghy and headed into the dock at Conchy Joes so that we could
get to West Marine for a few more parts.
After our West Marine adventure, we headed back to Conchy Joe's for their free food, 3 pm happy hour. We
also played the NTN trivia game and we came out on top 2 out of 3 games. It helps to be married to a Duke graduate and
I feel like I may be a trivia master.
After happy hour, we returned to Chez Dream Catcher for a dinner of steak and salad before turning in. We hope
to get up to Titusville tomorrow.
