Saturday, December 16, 2006 - Volley Ball Beach, George Town, Exumas By Tom
And so another week has passed and we're still in Georgetown. The weather finally got its act together and Monday,
Tuesday and Wednesday we were able to get out to the reef to go spear fishing. I say we, but I mean me and Ollie
from Dejarlo, and George from Sequel. Amy has forsaken me and my quest for fish.
Just kidding, actually its just been too rough outside for her to join the dive, so she stays in bed and sleeps
extra late with the ferrets.
The hunting has been ok even if it is a little rough. I got two lobsters and two groupers the first day, then
two lobsters the second day, and finally 1 lobster and 1 snapper the final day. Needless to say our freezer runneth
over.
Speaking of freezers, I had a problem with ours the other day. It is now fixed and I offer below the extremely
scientific procedure for fixing you freezer.
First, identify that the freezer isn't working. This is accomplished by noticing that your ice has all melted.
Second, say something incredibly witty that will show you frustration and let the freezer see your power. I
chose : "Shitty Death !"
Third, smack the freezer a round a little bit. I used a hammer that was nearby, but any object with sufficient
mass will suffice.
Fourth, have your wife tell you to calm down and stop beating your brand new $600 freezer.
Fifth, notice that the 12 volt cable that powers the freezer has been pulled out of its receptacle.
Sixth, and the most important step, pick up the large, furry, mammal that is currently sleeping on top of said
plug, move him to the side gently, so as not to disturb his sleep, and then re-engage the power cord for said freezer.
I may have a future in freezer repair.
Aside from spear fishing, we've been playing volley ball almost every day. Ollie is still my two's partner
and so far we have yet to be beaten. I like to think its our superior skill and well developed sense of volley
ball style, but Amy says we have just been lucky. We'll see how long our streak can continue.
This past Tuesday, we went with Pam and Ollie over to Gary and Fay's boat to watch Talladega Nights with Will
Ferrell. The movie blew. I've never seen Will Farrell in anything that didn't blow nor remotely resembled a good
film and I hope he burns in hell.
Two nights ago we had Barbara and Andy from the boat Moxy over for drinks and barbecued pizza. I had the pineapple
and lobster variant and it was quite good if somewhat unconventional. We stayed up way past our bed time telling
stories well into the night. Amy stayed awake until 11 pm which is probably the longest for her in about 12 years.
Last night we had Brad and Steve off of Kaleidescope over for spaghetti dinner. They both just graduated college
and have decided to take a semester off to sail around a while. Brad bought his boat with money he made from playing
poker on the internet, so we have invited him to play at our Monday night tournament.
Speaking of poker, we had 11 players show up last week and in a stunning display of pure card brilliance,
I smoked the field! Team Dream Catcher is now $40 richer, minus the 18.50 we spent on drinks during the game. I
guess we'll see if my new found strategy holds up next week.
Ok, so that about does it. Christmas is just around the corner and we are all trying to think festive thoughts.
Merry ho ho and all of that. Stay tuned......
