The King Is Dead (by tom)

January 20, 2012 Fergusson Point

A cold front threatened to push through yesterday, so we upped anchor and motored across the harbour and behind February Point where we dropped the hook in 6 feet of water all by our lonesome. It always strikes me as funny when we come back here, because it is so secluded, yet we are literally only a five minute dinghy ride from the 200 other boats that are currently in G'Town.

The past week has mostly been spent settling back into life here. I've resumed my ritualistic practice of beating on volleyballs and Amy has returned to her yoga thing every morning on the beach. We spent a good two days cleaning the boat and getting it back into top living condition. Having the central vacuum has been especially great as 3 of the 4 weasels are currently shedding. Yesterday, I used one of the attachment heads to give the bodhiWeasel a thorough de-fur-ing. He was not impressed.

We've reconnected with lots of old friends and made a few new ones as well. Several of the long time cruisers we've known since our first year are now in their last season and have announced their retirement from the cruising lifestyle, so I am certain there will be good-bye parties come spring which are always sad.

Of course having said that, I've also learned that several of the regretta (read: cruising regatta) centric people and a couple of net Nazis here in the harbour are also giving up life on the high seas, so at least that is something to look forward to. Score! The king (read: fascist cruising douche bags) is dead, Good.

I've been to town a couple of times this past week and have re-established connections with several of our Bahamian friends including my other wife Arlene. Long time readers will remember Arlene from the early days and so far running in to her has been the highlight of our return to G'Town. Except of course volleyball.

Anyway, we're planning on being here for two more weeks or so before we head south and east to Long Island, the Ragged Islands and then maybe on to Acklins.

Stay tuned, more to follow. Remember, be safe it's dumb out there....
